Dear Mr. Johannessen:

I extend my appreciation and commend you and your family for having the courage to share your daughter, Shanelle's tragic story with others to bring forth an important message about guns and young people. I admire Shanelle's bravery in turning her terrible experience into a positive and educational one for her peers.

As you may know, creating a livable environment along with public safety is one of the principal goals of my administration. There is definitely a great need to educate youth about the real dangers of guns.

Once again, I commend you and your family's hard work and dedication to promote non-violence to young people.
